About

In this theatre project, part of the series Non-European Theatre, Georgian theatre maker Mikheil Charkviani reflects on his experiences as a political activist during a time of major social transformation in his home country.

The work engages with both existential and artistic questions: How can an individual make themselves heard within an overpowering system? Is it justifiedโ€”or necessaryโ€”to defend democracy with violence when it is being systematically dismantled?

What can an artistic perspective contribute in this context, and how can art become an effective force?

Together with four performers from Gemeinschaftstheater, Charkviani developed the material for FARBE through a collective process. Personal experiences of everyday resistance played a central role. The research was expanded through conversations with activists, including members of local environmental groups in the Niederrhein region, focusing on their experiences of protest and resistance.

The result is a sequence of ten interconnected scenes revolving around resistance, performed by four actors.
